MAKING LIFE BETTER FOR

Teachers -  Parents -  Pupils

Looking for details of our primary and secondary school visits? Please see here.

We are the vehicle through which Northern Ireland author, John Magee, supports teachers, parents, and pupils to make life easier, more fun and, well... just plain better!

It doesn't matter whether you're seeking practical guides to supercharge reading, creative writing, and presentation skills; or looking for something more gloriously lighthearted; we have the solution.

Whatever you need, we're here to help.

To experience first-hand just how we do that, please download our FREE Fun Guide:

"What Every Year 7 Must Know Before Secondary School."

The guide will help any student to laugh their way through the nerves, doubts and even outright panic of moving to "The Big School."  We’ll talk about what really happens on the first day, how to avoid total timetable confusion, where not to sit in the canteen, how to make friends without sounding like a malfunctioning robot, and why you should never, ever leave your PE kit behind a radiator (trust us).

Packed with real-life stories, survival tips, and ridiculous examples of what not to do, this guide will get students through their first year of secondary school with ease.

But don't keep it to yourself (you're better than that). Tell every Teacher, Parent and Pupil, so they can enjoy their FREE copy.

You want more freebies? Well, if you believe, like us, that English class is the bedrock upon which better lives are built, then you will not want to miss our FREE guide which explains why classroom sleep should be reserved for other more boring subjects (you know who you are);

"Why You Should Stay Awake in English Class."

This deceptively simple-looking little guide is packed with tips, examples, checklists, and fun exercises that will help readers see and understand exactly how English connects to everyone's future — no matter what that is going to look like.

Once again, don't keep it to yourself, let others in on the secret too - sharing is caring after all.

Both of the above guides are provided as our way of saying we're delighted you're here.

We know you can't wait to read the guides but don't rush off just yet. Take some time to look around at our other titles and see what floats your boat.

If you see a title that you think would make a friend's life better then please use the handy social links below to let them know you were thinking about them.

As well as our series of guides and books; schools in Northern Ireland can also have John Magee deliver a Creative Writing Masterclass to their pupils.

For details of our primary and secondary school visits please see here.

Regretfully, visit requests for John Magee outside Northern Ireland cannot be provided at this time.

Primary Schools - Shared Education

More than just writing — it’s collaboration, creativity, and cross-community connection.

Looking for a meaningful way to bring pupils together across schools? Our Shared Education Creative Writing Workshop is more than a literacy boost — it’s a chance for children to connect, collaborate, and create together.

Designed for Key Stage 2, this interactive workshop helps pupils develop their storytelling skills while building friendships, empathy, and confidence.

Through fun, structured writing activities, children from different schools work side-by-side to share ideas, swap stories, and celebrate each other’s creativity.

Led by children's author, John Magee, the workshop supports curriculum goals in literacy while encouraging inclusive learning and cross-community understanding.

Whether you're new to Shared Education or looking for a fresh approach to creative writing, this workshop is a memorable and impactful experience for both pupils and staff.

Workshop Objectives:

By the end of the session, pupils will:

Understand the elements of creative writing (character, setting, conflict, resolution)

Work collaboratively to create and share a short story

Secondary Schools

You know the ones — students who hate literature and stare at a blank page, convinced they have nothing to say. But what if we could unlock their creativity, build their confidence, and improve their writing — all at once?

Our creative writing visits are designed specifically for secondary schools. They’re curriculum-aligned, fully resourced, and proven to boost engagement, literacy, and critical thinking.

Whether you’re looking to enhance your English programme, stretch your higher achievers, or reignite the spark in your quieter students — we’re here to help.

Delivered by experienced author, John Magee, our sessions are practical, inspiring, and easy to integrate into your existing teaching.

Year 8 - John will deliver a Year 8 assembly entitled "Why You Shouldn't Fall Asleep in English Class." (approx 20 mins)

He demonstrates the importance of the subject in a highly engaging way with references to Adolf Hitler, Gladiators, Modern Technology and Brands. It has been extremely well received with excellent feedback from students and teachers.

Year 10 - Creative Writing Masterclasses

John will deliver 2 x 60-minute workshops to Year 10 English classes. After sharing the secrets of structure and generating ideas John groups the pupils into teams tasked with completing a creative writing mission on behalf of the reclusive billionaire known only as "W". As owner of a global multi-media conglomerate he has set each team the task of developing a themed creative idea in only 30 minutes.

Each group is assisted through the workshop before they present their work and receive feedback. Past workshops have seen pupils deliver exciting new ideas on the following;

Literature;

Sport;

Social Media;

Television Quiz Show; and

Video Games.

The Author

John Magee is a married father with two children. Before becoming an author he spent nearly 30 years as an international business consultant sourcing exciting new ideas from around the world.

His first work, "Wisdom for Children" explains 12 of the most loved proverbs within a modern context. This work has been followed by several books for older readers aged 7-12;

“I Swapped Dad for a Robot”

“Granny Ball”

“Wheels of Fire”

"The Craziest Idea"

"Beardy Baby"

The idea for his book, “Beardy Baby,” came while on a visit to a Primary School. A pupil had asked him if "he had always had his beard."

During 2025 John is hoping to release a series of both practical and fun guides for teachers, parents and pupils. He is also planning to release the first title in his trilogy under the title "Edison Plugit".

John is passionate about showing primary school children how creative writing is already such an important part of their lives and can bring incredible happiness.

For pupils in Secondary school, John brings a real-world business perspective that demonstrates why English and creative writing skills are vital to their future careers.
